Wednesday, 17 January
14.00pm- 16.00pm
In the context of the EU program Ecofashion EU, the Association of Small and Medium-size Industries – ASMI is organizing on Wednesday, 17th January at 14.00pm-16.00pm an online community building and dissemination event regarding “Ready-to- Wear Clothing and Sustainable Practices.”
When it comes to sustainability fashion is notoriously under-regulated. In an industry with rapid growth, where hundreds of millions of employees work in unfair and unhealthy conditions and where non-degradable, toxic materials are being used, clothing has become one of the most polluting sectors for the environment and society as a whole. However, on a global scale more and more countries are trying to change the scene by enforcing sustainable policies such as pollution reduction and labor transparency. Transformative change has begun in the garment industry from small and medium size fashion brands, and a number of consumers are responding positively. A transformative shift to sustainability requires structural changes at the level of materials, methods, technologies, operating business models, consumer mentality and habits. The purpose of this community building event is to locate the sustainability practices necessary for the sector to merge with the global framework (from the production of organic materials to the design, crafting and recycling of clothes) and also discuss the impact of sustainable practices in the purchasing decisions of Greek consumers.
The event aims:
- To present the program EcoFashionEU and its results, including its challenges and benefits for the clothing industry.
- To locate points of contact between different stakeholders in the field of industrial clothing and encourage future collaborations.
- To determine the benefits and challenges of sustainability and the use of sustainable practices in industrial clothing.
The event will take place online on Wednesay, 17 January 2023 at 14.00 pm- 16.00pm.
We hope that this event will be the starting point for a creative dialogue, exchange of opinions, actions and initiatives in the field of sustainable clothing.
